How we raised $33,027 for Flood Relief in Princeton BC

On November 15th,2021 I had received news that my hometown had flooded the previous night. I had learned that my aunt and uncle had started a road trip and had to quickly turn around and come back because the lower level of their house was filled with water. After talking to my wife and praying about it we decided to start a GoFundMe campaign called the “Princeton Flood Fund.” that night. The campaign had a goal of $50,000.00 and we decided our deadline was going to be midnight on November 22nd,2021.

We decided we were going to use exclusively organic Facebook posts to promote the campaign. We did not have my Sony ZV1 on us at the time as we were on a business trip in Victoria, so my wife took out her cell phone and we recorded a short promotion for the campaign. It ended up getting a thousand views in a couple of days with 80 shares. We immediately committed to posting daily updates. When we got home, we used our Sony ZV1 vlogging camera and light ring to record video updates pertaining to how much money we had raised. We edited the videos using iMovie and then uploaded them to Facebook with a short description, campaign links, and a call to action.

The description looked like this:

PRINCETON FLOOD FUND UPDATE / SHARE THIS!

.

So grateful at the time I recorded this we were almost at the 4k mark.

.

Thank you to all who donated. This campaign will run until the 22nd of November.

.

We need to keep this momentum going to help Princeton.

.

People have lost so much.

.

Please encourage others to donate or share the link.

How we included numerous calls to action:

We wanted to ensure each video update and description was filled with numerous calls to action. We encouraged people to think about donating if they hadn’t already donated. Then we asked those who couldn’t donate to share the link and encourage others to donate. We had received thousands of views and hundreds of shares throughout the campaign.

Donation Timeline:

Update 1 November 16th: We had raised $3675.00.

Update 2 November 17th: We had raised $10,995.00.

Update 3 November 18th: We had raised $18,387.00.

Update 4 November 19th: We had raised $25,370.00.

Update 5 November 20th: We had raised $30,205.00.

Update 6 November 21st: We had raised $31,517.00

The campaign ended at $33,027.00!

The video updates for the campaign can be found on my YouTube channel (@mr.adamdeo) we ended up being able to withdraw $31,964.55 after GoFundMe had collected their fee. The money was disbursed to flood relief efforts that were being led by the Princeton Baptist Church and the Princeton foodbank on November 26th,2021.
